First of all, let's define what is an Elevation & a Section is;
•Elevation: it's a horizontal orthographic projection a building on to a vertical plane and as architects, we also use the word elevation as a synonym for façade.
•Section: its the term of cutting through the body of the building perpendicular to the horizontal lines.
To begin with, creating an elevation and a section in auto-cad you’ll first need to have the floor plan and choose where you want to cut for the cross-section and which elevations you would like to draw.
start by making the floorplan as a external reference and open a new page for drawing the new plans, when putting the xref drawing make sure it has a base point, if you want to draw the elevation first you can begin with rotating the drawing where the elevation line is from and start using auxiliary lines from the points of the plan that you see and as you have multiple lines start connecting them horizontally and if you have the measurements of your height start putting them vertically too as your building is starting to shape up, you can start drawing the other elevations from where you put the elevation line from. finish it with putting blocks for what kind of material you see (furniture, carpentry, etc).
for the section do the same process put in this case you’re cutting inside of the building so you’ll need to use hatch for the slaps to define the cutting and thickness of the walls or material, you can hide the auxiliary lines from the layers panel, you’ll find a small light that you can switch it off or on whenever you need to.
